The PSEW 2024 conference in Swinoujscie, Poland, has just ended. KODIAK GmbH attended the conference and identified four key learnings from the discussions. Here are the main takeaways from the premier industry event in Poland and across Central and Eastern Europe:
Offshore Wind Permitting and Collaboration
- The conference emphasized the necessity for updated laws and regulations to accelerate the permitting process for offshore wind projects.
- Realizing Poland’s 32 GW offshore wind potential requires on collaboration among political forces, investors, and project developers.
- The industry anticipates further details and a clear timeline for these regulatory changes.
Security Challenges and Energy Independence
- The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has highlighted security concerns for energy projects.
- Offshore wind farms now need to incorporate security perimeters, radars, and new cable restrictions, affecting project timelines and costs.
Workforce and Competency Challenges
- A significant challenge for phase one projects is the availability of skilled resources.
- There is high demand for project managers, construction experts, engineers, and QHSE professionals.
- Poland’s new offshore wind industry lacks experienced workers, creating a major challenge.
Supply Chain and Best Practices
- Alignment across the entire supply chain—ports, construction, vessels, and component manufacturers—is crucial.
- Sharing best practices can enhance development, permitting, and planning processes.
- Collaborative efforts among companies are essential for the successful realization of projects, rather than isolated approaches.
If these key challenges are addressed, KODIAK considers Poland a promising market and is optimistic about contributing to the country’s ambitious offshore wind energy goals through various future projects.

KODIAK has recently made its first overseas visit to WindExpo Tokyo, the largest offshore wind trade show in Japan. This event was a great success and an incredible opportunity for us to explore the latest technological advancements in the Japanese offshore wind industry as well as the vibrant capital city.
We were able to meet many new and promising contacts, which we believe will help to further expand our business overseas.
One of the most interesting aspects of the event was the opportunity to witness firsthand the technical advancements being made in the Japanese offshore wind industry. The Japanese market is known for its innovation and technological expertise, and it was exciting to see how these advancements are being applied to offshore wind projects.
We look forward to continuing our engagement with the Japanese offshore wind industry and building upon the relationships we established at the event.
